The ongoing development of the Internet of Things (IoT) is enabling completely new approaches to improving healthcare. Devices and systems are becoming increasingly "smart". Integrated sensors capture vital signs and the specific state and context of use of the environment. Integrated actuators enable natural cooperation with people through innovative human-technology interaction and control of technical systems in the environment. The computing power of today's devices is also constantly increasing and already enables the calculation of complicated AI algorithms without detours via cloud computers and potentially insecure data centers.
By networking these smart everyday objects, our living and working environments will become increasingly intelligent. Ambient Assisted Living is conquering the smart home, the smart office, and the smart factory, all the way to the smart city. Making meaningful use of this ambient intelligence for optimized healthcare is the declared goal of the "Ambient Health" vision. The environment has a preventive and communicative effect, it becomes a healing environment.
In this Joint Lab, we are investigating new possibilities for intelligently networked healthcare in interdisciplinary teams from telematics, human-technology interaction and health sciences.
